Automatic blood pressure monitor
Measuring your blood pressure regularly is very important for one's health, since controlling the improvement of high blood pressure allows seeing the progress of the state of health and observing how well the treatment applied is working.
Especially for this purpose there are digital and aneroid monitors, each of them with their advantages and disadvantages. We will analyze here the newest and most innovative digital monitors, because they are very easy to use (the blood pressure readings are shown on the screen, so there is no need to listen to the heart sounds through the stethoscope - especially good for persons with difficulties in hearing them); the fact that the cuff is inflated automatically and the existence of an error indicator are also advantages. The disadvantage here is their sensibility to irregular heart rates and to the changes of the body movements, also their relatively high price from about 30 to over $100, whilst "simple" aneroid monitors cost from 20 to $30.
Such model as Omron HEM-780 is an automatic blood pressure monitor with a range of new and interesting functions. It has a ComFit Cuff, designed for all-size arms (it fits arms from 9 to 17 inches in circumference). IntelliSense technology ideally adjusts the inflation of the cuff to any size of arms, and the large digital panel is perfect for seeing the blood pressure readings. This automatic blood pressure monitor also has a memory storage, keeping the date and time for every reading to see their evolution. Another nice feature is the detection of irregular heart beats by placing a special symbol along with the blood pressure reading, indicating their identification.

Another model from the A&D UA-787 series is 787 AC Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor. It has a feature similar to the one of the model analyzed above: EasyCuff - also allowing the cuffs to fit more arm sizes. It has an Irregular Heart Beat feature too, a memory storage of about 30 readings and a characteristic alarm mode that can program up to 3 alarms, meant for reminding the time to measure the blood pressure.
ReliOn Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with Easy Wrap Cuff (the same feature here again) has practically all the above-described functions (irregular heart beat detection, a large digital display), except for the memory storage – it's a 2-person memory with 84 readings each.
There's also Wrist/Finger Automatic Blood Pressure Monitors, very popular and easy to use too. Their disadvantages are high sensitivity to body position and temperature (a fact which may modify the blood pressure readings) and their high price (over $100). One of them is Omron HEM-637 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor, known to be recommended by the British Hypertension Society. It has an Advanced Positioning Sensor, which shows when its position during the blood pressure measurement had been the proper one. An automatically inflated cuff and a 90-readings memory are also other features describing this model.
Whether you pick a simple or a wrist automatic blood pressure monitor, you won't regret your choice, because taking part in one's health monitoring can be a quite interesting and important experience.
