Teacher Caught for Downloading Child Porn Was a Broken ManAn ex-Brighton Grammar teacher, who used such keywords as "pre-teen Lolita" to surf the Internet for child porn, was in fact a broken person, his reputation was ruined, the County Court has heard.

In 2007 the 49-year old teacher of Knoxfield, whose name is John Newton Hewitt, looked forward to take a senior position at Scotch College and that was when the Australian Federal Police caught the man.

Yesterday Hewitt was pleaded guilty to using the Internet in search for child pornography and keeping underage porn. Judge Frank Gucciardo was told that the Australian Federal Police acted according to the information provided by the Australian Interpol. Prosecutor Krista Breckweg stated that previously the Interpol was ready to take actions after it was alerted that Hewitt sought and downloaded underage porn from an Austrian website.

After arresting the man, the police seized his laptop which included 266 images and 155 videos. Some material contained images and video of young girls involved in sexual intercourse with men and other children. Prosecutor Krista Breckweg also told the court that there was material with children aged between 10 and 15 using sex toys and pictures of children aged between 11 and 14 in naked poses.

For finding the necessary pornographic content the man used such terms as "underage girls", "pre-teen Lolita", "naked pre-teen sex" and "illegal pre-teen pix". According to Ms Breckweg, Hewitt managed to download a software dubbed "Historykill" to delete all images from his laptop's cache. During the police interview the man admitted of being aroused by the images he downloaded, but mentioned that he did not pass the pornographic content to anyone.

According to Hewitt's defense lawyer, John Dickinson, prior to the current offenses the former teacher led an "exemplary" life.

"Whatever punishment this court inflicts will pale into the shadows because of the punishment he will continue to feel for the rest of his life," said Mr Dickinson.

He outlined that the career of Mr Hewitt was over. He added that Hewitt and his ex-wife did not keep contact with each other and for the past 8 months the man saw his three sons only three times.

Judge Gucciardo mentioned that it was hard to believe that someone with such experience as Hewitt would not reveal the true nature of child pornography.

"He has lost just about everything and now he faces an enormous challenge to discover his true nature," stated the Reverend Brian Porter, the chaplain at Brighton Grammar.

John Newton Hewitt will be hearing his sentence later this week.
