Designer Creates Artificial Cloud that Lets Travelers Float Among Real Clouds

Tiago Barros, a designer from New York decided to create a wonderful, balloon that resembles a huge cloud. The goal of the concept, which is, by the way, entitled Passing Cloud, is to take travelers for a floating trip around the country.

If turned into reality, the balloon may turn out to be the most eco-friendly mean of transportation in the world. Although it is called Passing Cloud, the structure is really a combination of heavy duty balloons that are surrounded by a stainless steel construction coated in tensile nylon fabric, which is very strong and flexible.

The designer's idea was to make something that would allow people to travel along the clouds. His concept includes a ladder that travelers should climb to get to the top of the structure where they can sit down and enjoy the ride as if they are riding a cloud.

Another interesting fact about this concept is that it does not have a predetermined route - it travels along with the wind, with the latter also determining the speed of the construction.

The Passing Cloud was submitted for the international "Life at the Speed of Rail" competition that was launched by the Van Alen Institute and the Department of Cultural Affairs of New York.
