Plaster For Libido Improvement Proved to Be Harmful

The medicinal plaster based on testosterone, elaborated for increasing women's sexual activity, can result in being less efficient and even dangerous in a long-term use, medstream.com reports.

The plaster Intrinsa was recently accepted in Great Britain for the treatment of women after menopause caused by the surgical removal of the uterus and one or both of the ovaries. It is worth mentioning that low levels of testosterone lead to the decreasing of sexual attraction in women in their period of menopause, which leads to psychological problems, influencing their relationships with life partners.

The plaster, attached to the inferior part of the abdomen, assures a daily dose of testosterone necessary for the reactivation of women's libido. This is the conclusion of the research, the results of which were published in one of the editions of Archives of Internal Medicines. It must be "worn" all the time and changed two times a week.

A new study revealed that, while testing the plaster clinically, scientists have excluded the presence of certain physical and psychic conditions which influence sexual attraction. In some of the tests the lowering of sexual attraction was based on short inquiry questions.

Besides:

- There was improvement noticed in the group of the patients with placebo. The majority of women who didn't use the plaster told about the improvement of sexual attraction, this means that the level of testosterone was not related to it.

- The increasing levels of sexual attraction were insignificant.

- Many women who have taken part in the research had sex 2-3 times a week, thus they could not have the problems named above.

- The clinical tests had lasted 6 months, this means they didn't show the effects of long-term using.

- The levels of the side-effects had made approximately 75 per cent, they included the reactions of the skin on the areas under the plaster, acne, excessive hair growth, head hair loss, pains in the chest, weight addition, insomnia, voice thickening and migraines.

As a result of all these facts, the plaster with testosterone will not be accepted for sale.
