All Chinese PCs to Include Software that Blocks Harmful Websites

The government of People's Republic of China wants people to sell all of their PCs so they would be loaded with software that blocks specific websites.

The Wall Street Journal cited the main developer of the software as saying that the main goal of the program is to block pornography websites. He also said that the country's government wants to protect young people from online content that would be "harmful" for them.

Green Dam-Youth Escort is the name of the software that is expected to be installed on all computers throughout China. The program will block banned websites by linking to a database. It must either come on a compact disc, or be pre-installed on the hard drive.

The software was created by Jinhui Computer System Engineering Co that worked in cooperation with Beijing Dazheng Human Language Technology Academy Co, the paper reported.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of People's Republic of China wrote the condition in a notice on May 19. However, the notice has not yet been revealed to the public.
