Apple Introduces the Multi-Touch Touchpad with the New MacBook Air

Apple's new, world's thinnest notebook - MacBook AirAfter Apple introduced the world's thinnest laptop at MacWorld 2008 - MacBook Air - the company presented also their trackpad, based on the multi-touch technology, designed for the new series of Apple laptops. This trackpad was used for the first time with the highly popular iPhone and experts are of opinion that this is a truly a revolutionary technology, as unlike the common two-finger manipulations on MacBooks, the new trackpad can interpret various combinations of three-finger manipulations.

MacBook users are familiar with the two-finger manipulations mainly for scrolling, whereas the multi-touch technology enables users to employ three fingers and combine their motions to get a yet unseen functionality of trackpad. Various videos on already demonstrate the possibilities of such an amazing technology on the MacBook Air. Various combinations can be used for scrolling, zooming pictures in and out, rotating objects and so on. Applications, such as Finder, iPhoto and Safari have their own sets of combinations for vast functionality.

The multi-touch trackpad in the new MacBook Air is based on the gesture language developed by Fingerworks, a company that since July 2005 is part of Apple. In the process of development, some gestures were simplified to create more user-friendly finger movements for such operations as copying and pasting.

The multi-touch technology is predicted to be widely used with new applications and games.

It is also known that Apple plans using the new technology with the upcoming models of traditional MacBooks. However it is not known whether it would be possible upgrading the current MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks to be able to use these new technologies.

The multi-touch track is one the many novelties Apple developers used in creating the world's thinnest notebook - MacBook Air.
