Bulletproof iPhone 4 Case from Japan

If you really like your iPhone and you want it to be completely safe from even a minor scratch (for whatever reason) then the Japanese firm called Marudai Corp. has the thing for you.

The company's latest creation is a heavily armored iPhone 4 case that, according to the developer, can resist a direct hit from a .50 caliber bullet, thus keeping the iPhone completely safe.

It would be interesting to note that the armored case boasts 1 inch of solid steel incorporated in the back, thus making the case bulletproof.

In order to use the case with your iPhone, it is required to literally bolt the device with the help of an Alley wrench.

According to Marudai, even if a bullet hits one of the bolts, the iPhone inside the case will remain intact.

At the same time the company decided to leave the front screen uncovered so it would be possible to use the touchscreen.

However, the case still has several drawbacks. Firstly, it is rather heavy, increasing the overall weight of the handset to 4.5 pounds (2.1 kilograms). Secondly, the case is quite thick - 1.5 inches (39.6 millimeters), which makes it more uncomfortable to wear in a pocket. Thirdly, the thick armor plating needs an additional lens for the camera, which means the viewpoint of the camera will be restricted to a degree.

Finally we get to the price of the case - the company set a price tag of 52,500 yen ($650). This figure does not include a spare lens and shipping.
