Latest Invention: 180-Degrees High-Resolution Screen

If you like this invention you can vote for it here. One of the most important inventions of researchers from the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHi) in Berlin was recently unveiled to the public. Researchers presented a panoramic 3.35 by 12 meters, 180-degrees high resolution display that boasts superior sound and picture quality.

The display is a system that comprises seven F32 DLP projectors developed by a Norwegian company called projectdesign. The screen has a resolution of 7 megapixels (7,000x2,000 pixels) and a luminosity that reaches 28,000 lumens.

For comparison it would be interesting to note that HDTV offers a resolution of 2 megapixels (1920x1080 pixels), offering a high-quality video content.

The system divides images into a number of vertical slices. Afterwards the images are projected onto a special curved surface of the display. The transition between the slices is almost unnoticeable thanks to an optical mirror system. Thus viewers have the opportunity to observe a highly-detailed 180 degree panorama.

As one of the most important invention in audio-video filed, the current system should have a perfect sound system. The real-time Wave Field Synthesis (WFS) surround sound system, incorporated into the display and consisting of 128 loudspeakers, is the one to provide top-quality sound. The system needs significant computing power to generate a sound that appears to originate from the same point, no matter where the viewer is situated with respect to the display.
