Latest Invention: CHARLI - First Full-Sized Humanoid Robot in the United States

Share

A lot of humanoids have been developed over the last few years in the US, but none of them was made in full size. Specialists from Virginia Tech's Robotics & Mechanisms Laboratory managed to come up with the first full-sized humanoid machine in the United States.

The engineers named their latest invention CHARLI (Cognitive Humanoid Autonomous Robot with Learning Intelligence). They made two versions of their latest invention, one lightweight and one heavy.

The lightweight robot is 135 centimeters tall, weights 12.5 kilograms and has 20 degrees of freedom. The heavy model represents a more complex machine, featuring a different set of legs equipped with actuators to show a better performance, reports GizmoWatch.

It would be interesting to mention that CHARLI will be officially presented at RoboCup competition in the Adult Size Humanoid League.
