Latest Invention: Lamp that Transforms Any Table-Top Into High-Res 3D Interactive Display

Li-Wei Chan and his team from the National Taiwan University in Taipei managed to come up with a desktop lamp that can transform a table-top into an interactive high-resolution 3D display.
The latest invention from Li-Wei and his team features an infrared projector and a standard color projector. Both are used to simultaneously project visible information and invisible markers on the table-top.
To say it more clearly, the table-top becomes a huge smartphone touchscreen that allows the users to play around with various applications, including a three-dimensional map where they can easily zoom in and out of certain areas.
The invention was presented at the SIGGRAPH computer graphics and animation conference that took place in Los Angeles, reports NewScientist.
It would also be interesting to note that the lamp can be used for other purposes. For instance it could be used to display high-resolution scans of painting in museums.
