Third Wave Power has recently presented its latest device called mPowerPad. The invention can be used for multiple purposes: it can serve as a mobile phone charger (via USB ports), radio, flashlight, reading lamp and it may also get rid of insects by playing the role of an ultrasonic insect-repelling apparatus.

According to the company, its device is the world's first all-in-one portable solar charger that boasts gesture-based technology, which means that it features an accelerometer that makes it possible for the user to change settings and functions by simply tilting or turning the pad.

In addition, the mPowerPad is water-, dust- and shock-resistant. It is equipped with a 4-watt solar panel that in about 6 hours can fully charge the 2500mAh battery. The user can also charge the device using mains power or a car adapter - this process takes about an hour.

On a full charge the pad can function for 20 hours of 8 watt bulb-equivalent illumination, radio listening, or bug-bothering. However, the device will work only 4 to 5 hours if it simultaneously charges a cell phone.

The invention was presented in Singapore this month, and it is expected to hit the market in January, wearing a price tag of $80.
