Latest Invention: Reconstruction Sphere Creates Accurate Digital Copy of Objects

Usually we use cameras to preserve images of things we like, but engineers working with the OrcaM reconstruction sphere have though of preserving entire objects (not only a part of them that can be viewed in an ordinary photograph).

The sphere makes the whole reconstruction process rather fast and simple. The OrcaM Orbital Camera System is able to create an extremely accurate 3D model of any object placed inside it. The virtual replica of the object features all the details of the real thing, including color, texture, and reflectivity maps.

Inside the sphere there are 7 individual cameras that orbit around the object, making synchronized hi-res images while various combinations of projected light and shadow make it easier to describe the geometry of the object. The whole process is completely automatic.
