Latest Invention: Second-Generation Robotic Snake from Israeli Scientists

Share

A group of scientist from Israel's Technion Institute has created a second-generation military snake 'bot that can be used during various urban and subterranean operations carried out by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Tamir Eshel, an Israel Security Expert, said that the robotic snake could be used for surveillance operations, being able to move through narrow tunnels and sewage systems that cannot be accessed by other machines.

He also mentioned that the robot can enter buildings without being noticed. The 'bot makes use of special sensors to scan the interiors of the buildings. In addition, the snake can transport "disposable" sensors developed to monitor activity within the buildings.

In case it spots suspicious activity, the snake 'bot detects particular targets and leaves behind activated explosive charges, reports Defense Update.

The new robotic snake weighs about 7kg, but more advanced models can be even lighter with more durable materials used instead of aluminum.
