Latest Invention: Smart Carpet that Examines Your Way of Walking

A group of scientists from the University of Manchester was able to come up with a new type of carpet equipped with a two dimensional light grid located underneath it and sensors found along the edges of the carpet.

When a person walks on the carpet, their feet block various parts of the light grid, which allows the carpet to generate their 2D image .

It would be interesting to note that the information collected by the carpet is detailed enough to, over time, examine how a person walks and spot minor changes that could point out that something is slightly off.

Besides, the carpet can tell different people apart by simply analyzing their way of walking. Another interesting and useful feature is the ability of the carpet to call for help in case a person falls and can't get up.
