Share

With the help of a new surveillance camera it would be possible to look through data on 36 million faces in just a second.

Built by Hitachi Kokusai Electric, the invention is able to automatically spot a face from either surveillance footage or an ordinary image, and search for it.

It would be interesting to note that the search results appear instantly, displaying thumbnail photos of potential candidates.

If the user selects a thumbnail, they can view the recorded surveillance recording. Thus it is possible to see what a specific person has done before and after the photo was taken.

The system can not only spot faces but also group the similar ones.

According to the company, the system can be used by those that that require a large-scale surveillance system, like railways, power companies, law enforcement, and large stores.

The invention is expected to be launched the next fiscal year.
