Latest Invention: System That Turns Any Plant into Interface for Playing Music

Share

Meet "Botanicus Interacticus," an interactive game developed by Disney Research. The most interesting thing about the game is that it makes use of a houseplant as a controller.

The user only has to introduce a wire into the soil and the system instantly creates an interface out of any plant. By touching, bumping, pushing or pulling any part of the plant, different sounds are produced.

It is worth mentioning that researchers at Disney firstly came up with Touche, a program that uses Swept Frequency Capacitive Sensing. With its help touch sensors can monitor a wide variety of electrical frequencies (the process similar to the one found in smartphones or gestural video games).
