Latest Invention: Three-Wheel Electrical Scooter from Sway Motorsports

The latest prototype from Sway Motorsports has been in development for a couple of years now and finally the company has unveiled its three-wheel electric scooter.

It is worth mentioning that the vehicle is the project that IDEO toy-designer and Rhode Island School of Design alumnus, Joe Wilcox, has been working on in his spare time. Previously Wilcox had a job at NASA's Johnson Space Center and MIT, were he worked on a number of space-oriented projects.

His scooter draws power from a 60-V, 20-Ah lithium iron phosphate battery pack. With its help the vehicle can register a range of about 10 miles (16 km) per charge.

The market version of the scooter is expected to feature a 60-Ah pack and will be able to travel about 30 miles on a single charge.

The concept's wheels are driven by a 3500 W hub motor located in the rear wheel. It allows Sway, which by the way weights 230-lb (104-kg), to reach a top speed of 40mph.

The scooter measures 52 x 35 x 40 inches (1.32 x 0.89 x 1.02 m), and each of its wheels has a diameter of 10 inches. All the lights incorporated in the vehicle are LED-based.

So far there has been no word of pricing.
