Latest Invention: Tiny, Lightweight and Inexpensive Night Vision Device

If you like this invention you can vote for it here.An engineering researcher from the University of Florida managed to invent a small night vision device that can be incorporated into other devices such as cell phones, car windscreens and more.

Franky So said that his latest invention makes use of OLED technology that is similar to the one used in cell phone and laptop screens. The device is about the size of a nickel, paper-thin and most importantly it is inexpensive.

It is worth mentioning that the night vision goggles make use of a technology that needs thousands of volts and a vacuum tube created using thick glass. This makes them heavy and expensive.

The latest invention of So uses a number of thin layers of organic semiconductor thin film materials that serve as an alternative of the thick glass tube. Currently his latest invention uses glass but in the near future it could be replaced by plastics.

According to the researcher, the night vision device would be inexpensive to make due to the fact that the same material is used by different factories that manufacture laptop screens or flat-screen televisions. More information on how the technology works is available here.
