Latest Invention: Traffic Light System that Will Automatically Stop Car Engines

If you like this invention you can vote for it here.IBM came up with a traffic light system that is able to remotely stop and start the engines of cars with the goal of saving fuel consumption at car-stuffed intersections. The company has filed a patent application for its latest invention.

The traffic light system receives the position data from the cars waiting at traffic lights and send a "stop-engine" message to the vehicles waiting more than a particular amount of time at the signal.

Here's what the patent says: sending a start-engine notification to a first vehicle in the queue; calculating an optimal time for an engine of a second vehicle in the queue to start when the first vehicle starts moving; and sending the start-engine notification to the second vehicle in the queue at the optimal time.”

According to IBM, its latest invention could be used in traffic signals installed at intersections, railway crossings and other transportation signals.

It is worth mentioning that if the car stops at red light for a short time, the engine should not be stopped due to the fact that more fuel would be wasted, which is why the system will analyze the time that remains before the lights change to determine whether it is logical to stop the engine, reports Physorg.

The system will collect information from traffic signal clocks, GPS data regarding the position of the cars, traffic load data, cameras and other information.
