New York City Metropolitan Trials New System Based on Smartphone Virtual Tickets

It looks like New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority decided to test a brand new ticketing system.

The virtual tickets will be created for smartphone users. The system creates QR code based on-screen tickets that the conductor can scan.

First trials of the new system are being carried out by MTA employees riding on the Metro North rail network. Until now it has relied on old printed paper tickets.

Currently there has been no word on whether the system will be adopted. It is worth mentioning that the old magnetic card system has been in use for the past two decades.
