Outdoor Lounge Chairs that Can Be Used to Charge Portable Gadgets

To bring a modern alternative for hard urban furniture, Sheila Kennedy, MIT Professor of the Practice of Architecture together with her team came up with the MIT SOFT Rockers that represent outdoor lounge furniture which people can also use to charge their portable gadgets.

The Rockers not only serve as clean energy charging station, they also boast a nice design and soft lounge chairs. They make use of human power of balance to produce an interactive 1.5 axis 35 watt solar tracking system.

The power electronics involved in this project are able to charge the 12 ampere-hour battery and collect solar power harvested throughout the day.

This is a great way to charge cell phones, MP3 players (via USB) and gather all of your friends in the same place.

More information on the project you can find here.
