Sony atracTable - Device that Can Rival Microsoft Surface

The Japanese tech giant Sony decided to enter the market of touchscreen tables. It looks forward to launch its new device called atracTable, which has the potential of pushing aside the Surface, a device earlier launched by Microsoft.

For the first time Sony presented its atracTable last year at Vision 2009, which took place in Stuttgart. It would be interesting to note that the company's new device is based on Atracsys Multi-touch interaction technology.

Sony came up with this technology to create a 35-inch table that could compete with Microsoft's creation.

By making use of a system developed by Sony and Atracsys, the user will be able to interact with the table by placing different objects on it, such as cell phones or coffee mugs.

The system features Sony ISS XCD-V60 cameras that generate a 3D image, informs Pocket-lint. It will also be able to detect body movements and gestures. Sony's invention was initially developed for the medical industry.
