Sony to Create Large-Screen Rollable OLED Television Sets

Researchers at Sony are working on a rollable large-screen OLED TV. In the near future, the company plans to launch a lineup of these television sets.

According to Sony engineer Dr. Kazumasa Nomoto, Sony has already developed and successfully presented a 80um-thick, 4.1-inch rollable OLED display with a 423x240 resolution and 16.8 million colors.

In order to design the next-generation OLED display, Sony used a number of materials, including a peri- Xanthenoxanthene (PXX) derivative and a flexible gate driver circuit.

It would be interesting to note that all of these materials can be made with the help of an ink-jet printing process, which makes the entire process of creating a flexible organic display at a (relatively) minimal cost, reports OLED info.
