Spaceport America for Private Space Companies

The world's first space airport will be constructed in New Mexico. The design of the project is credited to Foster + Partners and URS Corporation. The spaceport will be erected to allow private space companies such as Virgin Galactic carry out their commercial operations.

The whole facility will cover a territory of more than 110,000 square feet. It will make use of energy-efficient environmentally-friendly practices and is going to be constructed to be LEED-certified. Spaceport America will also be cost-efficient, using earth-tubes that will pre-condition the air in order to cut HVAC costs by 50 to 70 percent.

The facility will also feature solar panels, which are going to be mounted on the roof for hot water, and in-floor loop system. The designers claim the Spaceport America will be unique in terms of visual and green design.
