Use Cell Phone to Unlock Your Hotel Room

Soon travelers will be able to skip the front counter and use their cell phones to enter their hotel rooms. According to InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), the new technology is to be tested this June at two US Holiday Inns, Holiday Inn Chicago O' Hare Rosemont and the Holiday Inn Express Houston Downtown Convention Centre.

Users who wish to take part in the trials of the new tech will need to download a special application to their cell phone first. Then they need to call the confirmation email on their handset and hold up the device to a sensor mounted on the door to unlock it.

It is worth mentioning that the technology transmits an encrypted code to the cell phone of the guest. The first version of the technology can be used only by owners of smartphones, but a newer version will allow using it via any cell phone.
