Inventions related to physics

If you would like to know as much as possible about the inventions related to physics, it will be interesting for you to find out that a team of physicists from The University of Texas, Austin, US, have developed an "atomic coilgun" that would allow them to slow down, stop and study a much greater variety of atoms than ever before. The development of the atomic coilgun was based on the coilgun the invention of which belongs to the University's Center for Electromechanics.

The "atomic coilgun" slows and then gradually stops atoms with a sequence of pulsed magnetic fields. The physicists intend to use the gun for trapping atomic hydrogen, considered to be the Rosetta Stone of physics for dozens of years. Atomic hydrogen represents the simplest and most abundant atom existing in the universe.

Physicists have been working on slowing and stopping atoms for quite some time. In 1997, the Nobel Prize in Physics was received by three joint-winners for their contribution to laser cooling, a method that uses laser light for cooling gases and keeping atoms floating or captured in "atom traps".
