Latest invention
The latest invention that bears great importance to the sphere of medicine represents a biosensor technology to make testing for diseases, including cases of cancer and multiple sclerosis, as easy as testing for pregnancy. The remarkable technology has been developed by a team of scientists at the University of Leeds. It is based on using antibodies for detecting biomarkers, human body molecules that are often a marker for disease.
The biosensor technology could be widely used in doctors' surgeries to provide more accurate referral to consultants, as well as in hospitals to provide fast diagnosis. The scientists have performed a number of tests that proved that the biosensors detect a big number of analytes, including biomarkers in prostate and ovarian cancer, stroke, fungal infections and heart disease. The scientists also consider the biosensors to be versatile enough to test for tuberculosis and HIV.
