Latest inventions in computer

If you try to keep aware of the latest inventions in computer industry, you have probably heard the news that the amount of energy consumed by the information technology industry equals to the amount of energy consumed by the airline industry and has approximately the same carbon 'footprint'.

Now scientists and engineers at the University of California, San Diego are working on the development of an instrument to be used for testing the computing systems' energy efficiency under real conditions. The goal of the scientists is to make designers and users who belong to the scientific community re-consider the way they do their jobs. The scientists have initiated the GreenLight project with the intention to link scientists and their labs to more energy-efficient 'green' computer processing and storage systems, with the use of photonics - light over optical fiber.
