Latest medical technology

The Nobel Prize 2007 was received by three scientists for their remarkable medical achievements. All the scientists have concentrated their research work at genetics. They managed to make amazing discoveries in the field of embryonic stem cells. They have also found out new ways of recombining the DNA code in mammals. Their discoveries served as a base for the development of a new technology of gene targeting in mice, widely applied in many areas of biomedicine, including basic experiments, researches and therapy developments.

With help of the latest medical technology, the scientists are able to make particular genes inactive. They have made important conclusions about the roles of genes in embryonic development, adult physiology, aging and a number of diseases. The gene targeting technology has already allowed the scientists to create and study over 500 mouse models of human disorders, including cardiovascular and neuro-degenerative diseases, cancer, diabetes, and many others.
