Among the latest science inventions, it is worth pointing out two extremely small but powerful inventions on one microchip, a cryogenic sensor and a micro-refrigerator. The researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) believe that this combination is to provide the possibility of simpler, faster and more low-cost precision analysis of materials such as semiconductors and stardust.
The NIST team united a transition-edge sensor, representing a superconducting thin film identifying X-ray signatures with much greater precision than any other device, with a solid-state refrigerator based on a sandwich of a normal metal, a superconductor and an insulator.
