Latest technology
Speaking about the latest technology, it is noteworthy that researchers at the University of the West of England in collaboration with the University of York are working on the creation of the electronic systems that will be able to diagnose and heal their own faults the similar way the human immune system works.
Today, human lives are more and more interwoven with digital electronic equipment. The list of the complex devices includes computers, gadgets, household appliances, and the life-saving systems providing cars' and planes' safety. Such devices often have hundreds of thousands of components on a single chip and, in case when one component fails, this usually results in failure of the whole system.
That is why electronic hardware designers would like to come up with the system that would be able to cope with faults, and pro vide effective operation even if one or more components have failed.
Inspired by Nature itself and the defense mechanism of the human body in particular, the researchers intend to develop electronic systems to rely on a structure of 'cells' able to work together, defending system integrity, diagnosing faults, and healing themselves.
