List all inventions of 1948

Trying to list all inventions of 1948, three of them are worth special attention. Holography was invented by Hungarian physicist Dennis Gabor. For this invention the scientist was awarded the 1971 Nobel Prize in physics. The science of producing holograms represents an advanced form of photography. Holography allows to record an image in three dimensions. It is also used to optically store and retrieve information. Holograms are widely used in science-fiction.

Dr. Peter Goldmark and his colleagues tried hard to solve problems of recording and playing back narrow grooves and inventing an affordable and trustworthy consumer playback system. As a result, in 1948, the Columbia Record Company unveiled the 12-inch (30 cm) Long Play (LP) 33 1/3 rpm microgroove record album at a New York press conference. The following year, RCA Victor introduced the first 45 rpm single, measuring 7 inches in diameter.

The year 1948 also marked the invention of the first hook and loop fastener by Georges de Mestral, an engineer from Switzerland. De Mestral decided to naed his invention 'VELCRO' formed by two French words: velours for 'velvet', and crochet for 'hook'.
