NATO Plans Its Own Missile Defense Across Europe. Cold War II?

As stated by the Secretary General of NATO, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, the organization plans its own missile defense system in Europe in addition to the one the USA plans. This agreement was achieved after discussions and debates with the American President George W. Bush.

On a common NATO and USA press-conference George W. Bush stated that the missile defense system is targeted not against Russia, as many would think, but against countries, which could endanger peace in Europe.

During a discussion with Reuters reporters George Bush has given his evaluation of relationships with Russia and named it 'very intense'.

Bush addressed a speech to the Russian President Vladimir Putin and said that it was better to move forward. He said that the interests of Russia are the same as those of the Western countries. "We look forward only to cooperation with Russia", the U.S. President stated.
