And the Ugliest Dog in the World is...

The 2009 World's Ugliest Dog Contest recently took place at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Northern California.

The winner became Pabst, a boxer-mix with scrunched face and floppy ears.

It is worth mentioning that the dog was rescued from a shelter by a man called Miles Egstad of Citrus Heights, California.

Pabst managed to beat last year's winner Rascal, a pedigree Chinese Crested. The owner of the winning dog took home $1,600 ($100 for mutt class, $500 for runoff with the winner from the pedigree class and $1,000 for winning the contest) plus pet supplies.

In addition, Mr. Egstad received a modeling contract with House of Dog.

When adopted 3 years ago, Pabst served as a rescue dog and it was for the first time in 7 years that "mutt" managed to become the winner of the contest.

Egstad said: "I don't think he's that ugly!". However the dog's under bite was definitely his most impressive physical feature. Pabst became the audience's favorite due to his sweet personality.

In the pedigree category the winner was Miss Ellie, a Chinese Crested Hairless. The dog is 15 years old and blind.

Mr. Egstad gave the name Pabst to his dog because the pet had a "bitter beer face."

The 25-year-old Egstad saw the announcement of the competition on the television and was encouraged by his friends to enter his dog.
