Artist Creates the World's Largest Work of Art on Frozen Lake Baikal in Siberia

Share

Having the goal of creating the world's largest work of art, a team of artists led by Jim Denevan managed to inscribe circles on the ice of the frozen lake in Siberia.

Lake Baikal is considered to be the largest in the world and it also happened to be the choice of Denevan where the artist decided to create the biggest artwork on the planet.

Together with a group of helpers he marked 9 sq. miles of ice with huge circles based on the Fibonacci sequence. The outcome of the team's work can be viewed in the picture above and in the video that comes after this article.

In order to make the work, crew members had to resist harsh weather conditions, including cold temperatures and strong winds.

The world's largest work of art was recorded in a documentary and book that can be acquired at Anthropologie.com. You may also check out the nice presentation of sketches, process shots, and film extracts here.
