Two German Children Wanted to Reach Africa to Get Married

German police stopped two children, one aged 5 and the other 6, from escaping to Africa where they hoped to get married in the hot African sun. Both, Mika and Anna-Lena, took their bathing costumes, sunglasses and a lilo in hope to make it to the airport and then fly to Africa.

The two children even invited an official witness, who was Anna-Lena's sister, aged 7. All three of them were stopped by the police at Hanover railway station. Police spokesman Holger Jureczko said that Mika and Anna-Lena were "very much in love" and came to the idea of getting married in the place "where it is warm."

The idea came to the young lovebirds during the celebration of the New Year's eve. The families of the two talked about a holiday to Italy, which pretty much entertained Mika and Anna-Lena. The next morning, when their parents slept, the three children slipped out of the house and walked about a kilometer (0.6 miles) to the nearest tram station at Langenhagen, where the trio took a tram for Hanover central station, reports BBC News.

After becoming suspicious of the three children who waited for a train to the airport, a guard called the police, who then convinced the children that they would not get very far without money and tickets. At the same time police officers said that they would provide children a free tour to the police station. After arriving to the police station, the children were picked by their parents.

However, according to police spokesman "they can still put their plan into action at a later date".
