The reason macs & linux systems are not affected by viruses is because they are not as widely used as windows.

The mindset of a virus "programmer" and I use this term loosely because most of them are just "Script Kiddies" is to cause inconvenience to the maximum number of people with the minimum amount of effort. Thus they will make use of the fact that a majority of people prefer the windows family of OSes and write viruses that effect this operating system.

If Linux & the Mac OS series was more common they would target these systems instead.

Go google and type "eicar antivirus test". They will give u a bunch of codes in a notebook format, and once u download it, save it somewhere preferably desktop, and then open it. If u can open it without any alerts from the antivirus program, then there would be a problem.

Note: eicar is not a virus.
