Man Who Beat Toddler to Death Was Shot Dead

Police killed a man who kicked and punched his child to death on a dark, country road. According to the Stanislaus County coroner, the toddler was between 1 and 2 years old.

"It's been a long night of wondering, 'Why?' Why would somebody do this?" said sheriff's deputy Royjindar Singh. He added that the coroner does not intend to reveal the names of the victim and the suspect. Due to the fact that the child had very serious injuries, a blood or DNA test will be required.

The 27-year old suspect had a child's car seat located in the back of his pickup truck. Around 10:13 p.m. the truck stopped in the road facing cars that were going in the opposite direction. Such act caught the attention of people.

The sheriff's deputy stated that when people got closer, they noticed that the man beat the child in the back of the truck and then he threw the toddler on the ground.

"What we got from witnesses is he was punching, slapping, kicking, stomping, shaking. They tried to intervene and get involved, but their efforts really didn't have an effect. The suspect was engaged in what he was doing. He just pushed them off and went back to it," said Royjindar Singh.

After the sheriff's helicopter landed in a cow pasture, a Modesto police officer got out and tried to persuade the man to stop beating the child. When the man refused to obey his orders, the police officer shot him to death. The attempts to save the toddler were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital breathless.

It is worth mentioning that the incident took place on Bradbury Road about 10 miles west of Turlock, which is a city situated about halfway between Sacramento and Fresno.
