Meet Chanel - the Oldest Dog in the World


Chanel is a dachshund that was officially recognized as the oldest dog in the world. Recently she celebrated her 21st birthday. The dog was awarded with a certificate from the Guinness Book of Records. In addition, her owners will have the ability to visit a dog hotel and Chanel will be able to enjoy a spa.

During the ceremony, when the dachshund received the award that marked the dog's longevity, both Chanel and her owner, Denice Shaughnessy, wore an orange sweater along with red goggles. It is worth mentioning that Chanel is a rescue dog that lives in Port Jefferson, New York.

If calculated in people years, the dog should be about 147-years-old. In order to verify the age of the dog, experts had to analyze certificate from a veterinarian, review statements from 4 witnesses and observe pictures.

Chanel officially became the oldest dog in the world after the previous record holder, Butch, the 28-year-old dog, died in 2003, reports

"I just take good care of her. I treat her like a person," said the 51-year-old Shaughnessy, who cares for Chanel together with her husband, Karl. Chanel was just six weeks old when Shaughnessy took her from a shelter.
