Star Trek Theme Resort to Be Built in Jordan

A new entertainment resort is planned for Aqaba, Jordan, with the main attraction being a Star Trek themed adventure ride.

Called the Red Sea Astrarium, the resort is a $1.5 billion project that will include 4 hotels, and offer dining, shopping, as well as theatrical productions. Scheduled for 2014, the Red Sea Astrarium is also said to become an eco-friendly resort.

It would be interesting to note that Jordan's King Abdullah is a big fan of Star Trek and his King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD) is one of the project's investors.

Rubicon Group Holding (RGH) employed Callison, an architecture company, to work on the design of the resort. Two other companies will work on the production side - Paramount Recreation and CBS Consumer Products (both being the holders of the license to the Star Trek brand).

Currently very little information has been given on the "spaceflight adventure", but it is known that the attraction will be based on the movie launched in 2009.
