Two New Seasons to Make The Simpsons Longest TV Show in US

FOX asked for the creation of two new seasons of The Simpsons, which would make the show the longest on the television.

In case the two new seasons appear on television, The Simpsons will surpass Gunsmoke in the race for the longest-running prime-time US TV series.

It is expected that the 21st season of The Simpsons will start in the fall. It is worth mentioning that Gunsmoke ended back in 1975 with its last - 20th - season. The second season of The Simpsons, according to a 2-year-deal will come in 2010.

Matt Groening is the cartoon artist that created the longest running animated series on prime-time television in the country. His work, The Simpsons, managed to win 24 Emmy Awards.

In 2007 fans were invited to see "The Simpsons Movie", which gathered over $527 million worldwide.
