According to a new scientific study, common products all parents buy for their babies, such as lotion, powder, and shampoo, may damage babies health by exposing them to potentially harmful chemicals, known as phthalates. Scientists are not absolutely sure about the possible long-term health effects, yet animal studies suggest that phthalates lead to developmental and reproductive toxicity, while a few human studies prove these chemicals result in changes in health outcomes.

Phthalates are applied in the production of baby products for improving flexibility of plastics and stabilizing fragrances. They have been found in many consumer products, including baby toys, personal care goods and medical equipment.
