Technology Poll:

Do you use an anti-virus program on your personal machine?

When browsing hundreds and thousands of websites on the Internet, one cannot be sure not to catch a cyber cold somewhere out there. A computer virus is very similar to the one people have: if you let it be, it will grow and become stronger, while you will get weaker and weaker. The same goes for computer viruses: if you don't protect your computer, you can get a virus, if you don't treat the virus, your might lose your computer, along with your sensitive data.

Some people say they use such an operating system that cannot catch any cold, some say that they use good firewall software, some don't even believe in computer viruses. Which one is you? Do you believe special software can protect you against malicious software? Do you use antivirus software?

Don't wanna use any.
I use Windows, never tried Linux at all.
Never wanted to have antivirus installed.
I prefer to fight virus than to install antivirus.
I wrote some programs (not eating up resources at all, just run on demand) for all the peers in the office, just to prevent them from getting infected, and train the personnel the safe way to browse internet and use email.
Also do the regular updates and patches for the OS and softwares installed.

Been infected many times years ago, and gained solid knowledge on preventing malwares.

Linux rulez! No virus can hurt you if you manage user permissions responsively. This is most common Windows user problem. Everyone wants to be admin to prevent "you do not have permission to install this" messages, thus misclicking allows viruses to install themselves. :-)
Vista tryes to solve this problem by asking user if he really wants to do the action requiring admin permissions.

But anyway, *nyx like systems wins. ;-)
