Blondes Make Men Act More Silly, Study Says

Don't be surprised if you see a man acting dumb, he may be distracted by a blonde beauty. The recent study revealed that men's mental performance became worse after they looked at blonde women.

Researchers at the University of Paris X-Nanterre discovered that men's scores on general knowledge tests after viewing pictures of blonde women dropped. As it was later found, this effect can be explained by the fact that men were unconsciously thinking they were dealing with someone who was less smart.

Thierry Meyer, joint author of the research and professor of social psychology at the University of Paris X-Nanterre said that the study shows how stereotypes can influence our behavior. Blondes can make men act silly just because they represent a common stereotype of "dumb blonde".

This study proves that people's behavior is largely affected by stereotypes. In earlier studies it was discovered that people tend to walk slower in front of the elderly people. Experts say that blondes became a subject of numerous stereotypes and jokes over the past century. From the psychological point of view, many people associate blonde hair with childhood as babies are often blond at birth, thus people looking at fair-haired women may take them not too seriously.

The study, was published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology.
