Swearing at Workplace Boosts Productivity

Swearing strengthens a sense of team spirit, relieves stress and increases labor productivity.

Yehuda Baruch, a management professor at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, U.K., and graduate student Stuart Jenkins came to a conclusion that "apparent misbehavior" can do well for work in organizations. According to his research, the employer who bans profanity at workplace may break the solidarity between workers that can negatively influence their productivity and work motivation.

For many workers an environment where workers use swear words is more pleasant than a necessity to sit all day long in a silence. Organizations where profanity is common and their workers often use witty replies and friendly insults have more lively environment and sense of one unity.

Scientists say that annoyance swearing serves as relief mechanism to reduce tension and stress at work.

However there should be mentioned that not all swearing can be good for work. It is important to know where and how to swear. Experts warn not to use swear language when dealing with customers or use verbal abuse as it may cause depression and reduce work motivation and low productivity.

However some science has shown the contrary result. Swearing is a negative behavior. Negative behavior is contagious and addictive, says collaboration and leadership effectiveness expert Goleman et al (2002). Negativity creates friction, stress, and conflict with those people who do not wish to be negative (or swear-along). This is contrary to positive collaboration rules and will result likely in an incline of productivity.

There is surely some form of verbal outlet that may boost some energy and moral among alike thinking personnel. But I am not hopefully letting my mouth go wild without restraints.

thanks for your interesting controversial thoughts.

I swear that I never swore at the workplace, so I guess the time has come, hope my manager sees this message: "Hey I'm f*ckin' tired of your demagogy, you don't know a sh*t about your work!" There we go, now I feel like working. Swearing in the workplace is really helpful, thanks.

Got to tell my boss to f*ck off - as soon as he figures out that I'm swearing in the workplace for a reason, I'll be boss myself :) Go swearing at the workplace.
